John resumed Baroque Oboe in 2005, after a suggestion and encouragement from German bass-baritone Hans-Georg Wimmer. Following initial lessons from Michael Taglinger (Germany) John has had private tuition from Adam Masters (Australia) and Eduard Wesly (Holland) as well as critical assistance with reeds and instrument set-up from Paul van der Linden (Holland) and Mary Kirkpatrick (USA).
He performs mainly with his Baroque chamber music group Hausmusik NZ (with Rita Paczian, harpsichord & mezzo, and various other instrumentalists and singers as required) (/hausmusik-nz.html) but has also performed with NZBarok (formerly AKBarok) and the Handel Consort & Quire and gave the Baroque Oboe presentation at the NZ Double Reed Society’s double reed weekend in October 2012.
He plays baroque oboes and oboes d'amore by Paul van der Linden (Holland) and Sand Dalton (USA) (/instruments.html).
John is also an experienced reed-maker (/reeds.html).
